Hundreds Of Earthquakes Have Yellowstone Trembling

Recent Yellowstone Earthquakes Are Centered Under the Ancient Yellowstone Supervolcano’s Caldera

It is not unusual for there to be small earthquakes in the Yellowstone Park area, however the recent spate of Yellowstone earthquakes are different. The University of Utah publishes a map of recent Yellowstone earthquakes online. The map currently shows 146 earthquakes in the Yellowstone National Park area within the last week, most of them underneath the ancient Yellowstone volcano. Many of them over 3.0 on the Richter scale and the strongest reaching a 3.9 reading. For reference, an earthquake with a strength of 4.0 is capable of causing moderate damage.

These Yellowstone earthquakes are not powerful, but there are a lot of them occurring in a very short period of time. Yellowstone National Park is the home of the Old Faithful Geyser which derives its heat from a shallow, five to ten mile deep pool of magma that lies below Yellowstone. The Yellowstone caldera is, in fact, the remnants of a very large volcanic event that occurred hundreds of thousands of years ago. The area is still very geologically active and, according to the University of Utah’s earthquake center, is the site of 1000-2000 small earthquakes every year, but they say, this week’s activity is much higher than average.

Rocky Mountain News

E.W. Scripps Co. last month put the (Denver) Rocky Mountain News on the sales block, saying it would evaluate offers for the newspaper only through January before examining other options.

“The decision to seek a buyer for the Rocky would have been unthinkable until very recently,” said Rich Boehne, president and chief executive officer of Scripps, “but the operating conditions have become increasingly difficult in Denver.”

The News (daily, 210,000; Saturday, 457,000) is printed and distributed by the Denver Newspaper Agency, a joint operating agreement equally owned by Scripps and MediaNews Group, which owns The Denver Post. The News publishes Monday through Saturday.

Denver Post Publisher and MediaNews Group Chief Executive Officer William Dean Singleton said in a memo that Scripps executives contacted him in mid-November to notify him that they planned to close the News “as soon as practical.”

Under terms of the JOA, MediaNews has the right of first refusal on any bid offered to buy the News. But Singleton also said in a published report that if MediaNews purchased the paper it has no intention to continue publishing its rival.

“I don’t believe anybody thinks the Rocky can be sold,” he told The Post.

Boehne said the 50 percent share of the cash flow generated by the DNA “is no longer enough to support the Rocky, leaving us with no choice but to seek an exit.”

If the News does fold, it would be the largest-circulation daily to close its doors since The Houston Post shuttered operations in 1995.

The 42-year-old supermodel flaunted her age-defying bod whilst out partying with Hollywood pals George ClooneyScarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes at a  private Christmas party in London.

Dressed to kill in an all-black sheer number, Cindy modesty was barely contained by her nude-coloured bra.

A bleary-eyed Cindy looked a little worse for wear as she partied to the early hours of Friday morning with fellow booze buddy George.

Paris Hilton robbed ???

Paris Hilton robbed of jewels worth $2million

Socialite Paris Hilton’s Los Angeles home has been burgled and the thief has looted an estimated $2 million worth of jewelry.

LAPD detectives (THE LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT) are hunting for the thief, who ransacked the Mulholland Estates mansion of the socialite in the city’s highest-dollar home break-ins this year.

The burglary occurred some time between late Thursday evening and wee hours of Friday. A security guard called police shortly after 5 a.m. on Friday and reported the incident.

A man wearing a hooded sweat shirt and gloves entered the home and “ransacked her bedroom,” said Los Angeles Police Officer, April Harding. He fled away with jewelry worth around $2 million from the home in the 3300 block of Clarendon Road.

Hilton, 27, was out that eve and had been spotted at several LA nightspots the previous night.

The police have launched an investigation. According to law enforcement sources, the investigation so far indicates that the individual was not a professional burglar.

Despite that Hilton’s house in the hills of Sherman Oaks is well- equipped with a security system, the burglar is suspected to have broken in through the home’s front door. The security could have been compromised somehow, but no details are available as of now, and there is also a possibility that the burglar entered the house by other means.

The gated community, where Hilton lives has a security force of its own, which is now working with the police to help them track the thief. “I expect we’ll be able to apprehend the culprit here based on some of the information we have,” said Deputy Chief Charlie Beck, head of the department’s detective bureau.

Robbery in Hilton’s house is also irksome for the neighbors, since the area has been swamped by LAPD commercial crimes detectives and people are being questioned. Officers suspect that the thief may be familiar with the mansion and neighborhood.

She had bought the 7,500-square-foot Mulholland Estates property last year for more than $5 million.

The rich hotel heiress has suffered it before. Only about four years ago, jewelry worth thousands of dollars, money and other valuables were taken from a home she shared with her sister, Nicky Hilton.

Paris Hilton Like Totally Robbed!

Paris Hilton was totally robbed this week. No joke.

OMG Paris Hilton was like totally robbed this week! While Hilton was away partying and celebrating pal Christina Aguilera’s birthday on Thursday night, a robber was busy breaking into her Sherman Oaks home and making away with everything he could.

Early reports estimate that upwards of $1 million worth of Hilton’s belongings were snagged in the late Thursday/early Friday morning robbery. The break-in reportedly took place late on Thursday. Hilton apparently did not come home till early on Friday morning, at which point (it is presumed that) she called the LAPD.

The police are investigating the break-in at Hilton’s swanky gated community. No one has been arrested yet, and there has yet to be a description released of the suspect(s).

Don’t worry, Paris - you’ve lived the Simple Life, so you can do anything! But girl — get a better alarm system so next time they can catch the thief!

David Beckham - Makes it to Milan

Posted by Administrator On December - 20 - 2008

Getting ready to be introduced by his new team this evening, David Beckham was spotted arriving in Milan, Italy on Saturday morning (December 20).

The English soccer star made the trip from London, where he’s been spending the past few days alongside wife Victoria and their three sons, Romeo, Cruz and Brooklyn.

After arriving into town, Becks was driven off to a medical clinic in nearby Appiano Gentile to undergo medical tests while his Spice Girl bride reportedly scoured the area in search of a hotel to stay in during the next few days.

The family will then be leaving Milan on Monday for the holidays, but David is to return a week later on December 29 so that he can fly out with the AC Milan squad to Dubai for their winter training camp.

Victoria Beckham Bans Sexy Italian TV Presenter From Interviewing David Beckham?

Victoria Beckham has reportedly banned sexy Italian television presenter Ilaria D’Amico from interviewing husband David Beckham.

The former Spice Girl is said to have restricted IIaria from a one-on-one chat with the soccer star after researching the Mediterranean beauty online.

The Italian media are reporting that Victoria is insanely jealous at the thought of such a beautiful woman being anywhere near David.

But a rep for the Beckhams insist the claims are false.

A spokesperson says: “Illaria D’Amico will still be doing an interview with David.

“Originally Sky wanted to do an exclusive interview but we felt the press conference should be open to everyone and wouldn’t want to restrict it to one broadcaster.

‘He will do a separate interview with Sky afterwards. It’s rubbish to suggest we would veto a presenter because of her looks.’

Barack Obama - Names Scientists To Admin. Posts

Posted by Administrator On December - 20 - 2008

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama on Saturday named Harvard physicist John Holdren and marine biologist Jane Lubchenco to top science posts, signaling a change from Bush administration policies on global warming that were criticized for putting politics over science.

Both Holdren and Lubchenco are leading experts on climate change who have advocated forceful government response.

Holdren will become Obama’s science adviser as director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy; Lubchenco will lead the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which oversees ocean and atmospheric studies and does much of the government’s research on global warming.

Holdren also will direct the president’s Council of Advisers on Science and Technology. Joining him as co-chairs will be Nobel Prize-winning scientist Harold Varmus, a former director of the National Institutes of Health, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor Eric Lander, a specialist in human genome research.

“From landing on the moon, to sequencing the human genome, to inventing the Internet, America has been the first to cross that new frontier because we had leaders who paved the way,” Obama said in announcing his selections in his weekly radio address. “Leaders who not only invested in our scientists, but who respected the integrity of the scientific process.”

“Because the truth is that promoting science isn’t just about providing resources - it’s about protecting free and open inquiry. It’s about ensuring that facts and evidence are never twisted or obscured by politics or ideology,” he said. “I could not have a better team to guide me in this work.”

In their posts, the four scientists will confront challenges in global warming after years of inaction by the Bush administration, which opposed mandatory cuts of greenhouse gas pollution. Last year, former Surgeon General Richard Carmona testified to Congress that top Bush administration officials often dismissed global warming as a “liberal cause” and sought to play down public health reports out of political considerations.

Since 1993, summer Arctic sea ice has lost the equivalent of Alaska, California and Texas, and global warming is accelerating. The amount of carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere has already pushed past the level some scientists say is safe.

Holdren, 64, is a former president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington who has pushed for more urgent action on global warming. As Obama’s top science adviser, he would manage about 40 Ph.D-level experts who help shape and communicate science and technology policy.

Colleagues say the post is well-suited for Holdren, who at Harvard went from battling the spread of nuclear weapons to tackling the threat of global warming. He’s an award-laden scientist comfortable in many different fields.

“Global warming is a misnomer. It implies something gradual, something uniform, something quite possibly benign, and what we’re experiencing is none of those,” Holdren said a year ago in a speech at Harvard. “There is already widespread harm … occurring from climate change. This is not just a problem for our children and our grandchildren.”

Lubchenco, an Oregon State University professor specializing in overfishing and climate change, will be the first woman to head NOAA. A member of the Pew Oceans Commission, Lubchenco has recommended steps to overcome crippling damage to the world’s oceans from overfishing and pollution and has expressed optimism for change once President George W. Bush leaves office.

“The Bush administration has not been respectful of the science,” she said earlier this year. “But I think that’s not true of Republicans in general. I know it’s not. I am very much looking forward to a new administration that does respect scientific information and that considers it very seriously in making environmental policies.”

Varmus, who was a co-recipient of the Nobel Prize for his research on the causes of cancer, served as National Institutes of Health director during the Clinton administration. A former medical professor at the University of California, San Francisco, he helped found the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention and chairs a scientific board at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Lander, who teaches at both MIT and Harvard, founded the Whitehead Institute-MIT Center for Genome Research in 1990, which became part of the Broad Institute in 2003. A leading researcher in the Human Genome Project, he and his colleagues are using the findings to explore the molecular mechanisms behind human disease.

In his radio address, Obama said he planned early next year to more closely address the issue of engaging the nation’s technology community to “harness technology and innovation to create jobs, enhance America’s competitiveness and advance our national priorities.”

“It’s time we once again put science at the top of our agenda and worked to restore America’s place as the world leader in science and technology,” he said.

Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee - Get New Partners

Posted by Administrator On December - 20 - 2008

Aww, man — and I thought they were back together!

The never-really-together-but-never-really-apart twosome of Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson have reportedly added two new characters into their, um, whatever it is they do.

Sources tell E! that both Tommy and Pam have new loves in their lives — and they are quite interesting. You see, Pam is rumored to be dating, wait for it, royalty!! Yes, Pam is quietly dating a guy from the United Arab Emirates, who happens to be a member of Abu Dhabi’s royal family, who she met when she visited Abu Dhabi in June with the Make a Wish Foundation. Which may have something to do with the fact that she is partnering with the royal family to build an ecofriendly hotel in the area.

Not to be outdone, Pam’s former hubby, Motley Crue man Tommy Lee has got a treasure of his own. Insiders say that the drummer is hooking with Rock of Love 2 reject Daisy De La Hoya — who obviously has a thing for ’80s hair bands.

Do you remember Daisy? She was the blonde who made it to the final two, really good body with a really busted face. Ring a bell?

Just another bump in the road for Pam and Tommy, but I’m sure not even royalty and reality TV whores can keep them apart for long.

Tommy Lee knows how to party.

In yet another edition of “Stupid things celebrities say that are making them even more annoying now that no one has a job or any money or savings,” we present to you Tommy Lee. In the new issue of Playboy, the drummer talks about ways to get a party started.

“I have a Jäger machine in my bus and one in the dressing room. I also have a new dressing room rule, which I started over the summer: You must remove one article of clothing — your pants, your top — or else you are not allowed in my dressing room.”

Ohh… so that explains his ex-wife’s fascination with not wearing pants! Pamela Anderson couldn’t get into their house without removing them and so now she’s stuck in her bad, non-pant wearing habits.
